Four of the guys fought last Friday night at CFC 18 in front of a packed venue. Adam Sarkis was laying some brutal ground and pound on his opponent before a small mistake caused him to get swept into a bad position where his opponent’s strikes caused the ref to stop the fight. Unfortunate result for Adam, but he’ll definitely bounce back from this. Mo Kandeel was up against a tough opponent from Roots and unfortunately lost via rear naked choke.

Up next was Kian Pham who showed a lot of maturity in his fight to convincingly beat his opponent. Striking and landing some good blows from his feet while his opponent was on his back forced his opponent to desperately shoot at Kian’s legs where he latched onto a tight arm in guillotine choke from half guard which forced his opponent to tap.

Last up for the team was Josh Payne who started off slow but came home very strong in the latter half of the first round dropping his opponent with a big straight right punch down the middle. Josh got on top of his opponent to continue with some ground and pound, however his opponent was literally saved by the bell. Josh unfortunately received an elbow above his eye which cut him and affected his vision. The doctor had a look at his eye during the round break and for safety reasons called the fight off which was very unfortunate as Josh’s opponent looked very tired and was going to be in a bit of trouble come second round.

A tough and valiant effort by all the boys on the night. It’s always challenging to step up for a fight so the boys did everyone proud regardless of the results.

Luke Shakespeare made his Kickboxing fighting debut at War on the North Shore 16 today held at North Sydney League’s club. Despite this being only his second fight (his first being an amateur MMA fight), Luke showed a very dominant performance in every round to take the fight in the end via a unanimous decision. The win is definitely a result of all the hard work Luke has put into his training as he was ready to fight on short notice. Congratulations Luke and keep up the hard work!

CFC 17 is on this Friday June 3rd up on the Gold Coast with four of the boys fighting. Mo Kandeel, Steven Semrany and Adam Sarkis will be taking a step up in competition and making their CFC debut on this QLD show. Rob Lisita will be headlining the event with a Lightweight Title fight against Bernardo Trekko. Rob has trained very hard for this fight and we all believe his time is now, and you will be seeing a new Lightweight champ come Friday night. Rob is hungry and wants it more and has a lot of motivation for this fight. It should be a very good performance from Rob no doubt.

The other boys have also prepared and trained hard as the Lion’s Den does. They all have to remember that there isn’t a gym out there that trains harder than us and they’ve been pushed as hard as they can go, so they will all be ready to fight come Friday. A good supporting crew will be going up to support the boys too. Good luck everyone!!

A couple more boys fought on the weekend at the JNI show held at Civic Centre in Hurtsville. ‎Luke Shakespeare was making his MMA debut in an amateur fight and Adam Sarkis jumping into the ring once again. Luke made an impressive debut dominating the fight with his wrestling and able to finish the fight off with an armbar in the first round. Adam showed a very impressive all-round performance with some great striking landing with some good punches and knees before putting his opponent on his back to further punish him there. After a while, his opponent gave up his back and Adam finished the fight with a rear naked choke submission.

Steven Semrany was supposed to have a fight, but his opponent for some strange and unknown reason pulled out just before having to go out and fight. Steven was very disappointed having trained and prepared hard for this fight, but his opponent’s actions might say something about Steven: that he’s one dude to be feared. Till next time Steve.

Luke with his armbar finish which really expresses the definition of “hyper-extension”.

Four of the boys fought at CFC 16 just gone by with some great results.

Chris Patterson started his MMA career with a win showing some great striking skills. Chris displayed a series of punches, kicks and knees, as well as an huge elbow which sent his opponent to the mat where Chris was able to continue with strikes till the ref stopped the fight. Chris via TKO in the first round.

Charlie Sukkar continued his winning ways with an armbar submission. After some clinch work and a takedown from his opponent, Charlie ended up on his back, but never panicked and was able to display some good jiu jitsu and get an armbar off his back. His opponent tried to slam his way out of it, but all that did was accelerate the inevitable. Charlie vis armbar in the first round.

Alex “Bolo” Le came up against a seasoned striker and the fight was a war for three rounds. Plenty of strikes, from punches, kicks and knees. Bolo got a few takedowns as well which would have favoured him on the scorecards. Unfortunately the decision didn’t go his way, however his fight was easily the Fight of the Night.

Last up was Josh “Major” Payne against a seasoned striker in Jason Harris. This was anticipated to be a standup war, however Harris realised that Josh would have his way with him on his feet, and managed to get Josh on his back via a takedown. His opponent was able to start some ground and pound which were hitting their marks, however Josh stayed cool and was able to secure a triangle choke. Harris tried to slam his way out of it and Josh was able to start attacking the arm as well eventually forcing Harris to submit. Josh wins via armbar in the first round.

Last night the gym had the pleasure of welcoming Conan Silveira from American Top Team who is here in Australia with Hector Lombard who will be fighting at CFC 16 this Friday. Conan took the usual 7pm BJJ class and throw in some extra MMA tips as well. The class went over a few techniques most of the students already are familiar with, but Conan was able to add his own flavour and layers to them. It was a good turnout and a fun night. We are very thankful to Conan for spending the time to do this. Great Coach. Great Man.
